Powerful, heavily built, and wrapped in a dense water-resistant double coat, the Newfoundland was shaped by the harsh maritime environment of Newfoundland, Canada, where strength, swimming ability, and a willingness to work alongside people were qualities worth having.
Yet for all that size and strength, the Newfoundland is equally famous for its gentle, patient, devoted temperament. Behind the enormous paws, broad head, and impressive coat is a companion traditionally admired for steadiness and an unusually sweet disposition.
That wonderful contradiction inspired the line:

The artwork surrounds the Newfoundland with rugged coastal scenery, fishing boats, weathered docks, rope, rocky shoreline, and a lighthouse; a tribute to the maritime world associated with the breed’s history.
