The Considerable Gentleman Edition celebrates the Newfoundland’s wonderful combination of immense size, gentle temperament, powerful swimming ability, and maritime working heritage. Developed on the Canadian island of Newfoundland, these impressive dogs became closely associated with fishermen and life around cold North Atlantic waters.
Beneath the massive frame and thick, water-resistant double coat is a breed admired for its sweet disposition, patience, strength, and devotion. Newfoundlands are imposing without needing to act imposing; a quality that makes the word gentleman seem particularly appropriate.
There is, however, the matter of water.
Newfoundlands were made for it. Between swimming, wet coats, enormous paws, and the occasional contribution of drool, dryness can become more of an aspiration than a household condition.
