The Couch Ownership Edition celebrates one of the unavoidable realities of sharing a home with a Newfoundland: this is an enormous dog with an equally enormous talent for making itself comfortable.
Powerful, heavily built, and wrapped in a magnificent double coat, the Newfoundland was developed on the Canadian island of Newfoundland, where the breed became closely associated with fishermen, water work, and rugged maritime life. Strength and swimming ability are part of its heritage, but so are the gentle, patient, affectionate qualities that helped give the Newfoundland its reputation as a classic gentle giant.
And gentle giants, apparently, require seating.
The slogan captures the situation:
“Too Big for Your Couch. Doesn’t Matter.”
Because the Newfoundland does not necessarily dispute the first statement. At somewhere around a hundred-plus pounds of fur, paws, and good intentions, he simply considers it irrelevant.
