Then he got a Treeing Walker Coonhound.
The Lost Sleep Edition celebrates one of America's great hunting hounds; a dog equipped with speed, stamina, an extraordinary nose, and a voice powerful enough to make the surrounding countryside aware that something important has happened to a tree.
The Treeing Walker Coonhound developed from American foxhound and Walker hound stock and became prized for its ability to trail game, push a track with speed, locate its quarry, and tree it. Athletic and unmistakable in its classic tricolor coat, the Walker is a working hound built to cover country rather than decorate the porch.
And then there is the voice.
A good coonhound does not merely discover something.
He publishes the news.
Across hardwood ridges, through hollows, beneath an inconveniently bright moon, the Walker follows his nose with the sort of determination usually found in men who have misplaced either their fortune or their dignity.
Eventually the trail ends at a tree.
