There are dogs that resemble lions, and then there is the Leonberger, which appears to have taken the comparison as a personal objective.
The Lion of the Cold Country Edition celebrates the Leonberger’s magnificent combination of size, strength, luxurious coat, dark mask, and unmistakably leonine presence. Developed in Leonberg, Germany, during the 19th century, the breed was deliberately associated with the lion featured on the town’s heraldry; a connection that remains especially fitting when a full-grown Leonberger is standing in front of you.
Beneath all that mane and considerable physical presence, however, is a dog known for much more than appearances. Leonbergers are admired for their steady temperament, intelligence, affection, and devotion, combining the imposing appearance of a giant working breed with the character of a deeply attached family companion.
